Call for SSF – CO2 Capture, Transformation and Utilization
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere is of utmost importance to stop climate change. The Foundation for Strategic Research is announcing SEK 60 million for the formation of a multidisciplinary research center for the capture, transformation and utilization of CO2. The announcement is part of the foundation’s 30th anniversary.
More efficient and cheaper methods for capturing and converting CO2 are needed.
In the call SSF – CO2 Capture, Transformation and Utilization, the research will focus on areas where CO2 from industries is reduced, captured, transformed and used directly or indirectly (that is, chemically changed) in various products.
For example, the research may focus on optimizing the capture process; research on electrofuels; production of syngas (CO+H2); CO2 separation techniques; conversion of CO2 for, for example, chemical, biological or geological areas of use. The research areas described are intended as examples for research and innovation, but other areas may also be relevant. SSF encourages innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations to propose new ideas for the capture, transformation and use of carbon dioxide. More examples can be found in the call text below!
Storage and transport of CO2 are not included in the tender.
The composition of the participating organizations in the application must be a main applicant from a Swedish university/college, the co-applicant from one to three other universities or research institutes and at least two industrial and/or public partners.
The center is part of SSF’s ongoing investment in multidisciplinary research centers (MRC). The aim is to stimulate multidisciplinary research between academia, research institutes, industry and society for sharper results and faster application.
The deadline for applications is 28 January 2025 at 14:00. Project start must take place in the period 1 July 2025 to 1 January 2026.
