Research abroad – apply for an SSF Sabbatical!

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF, is allocating a total of SEK 44 million for “SSF Sabbatical 2025”. Each researcher can receive up to SEK 3 million during the period 2026 to 2029.

The program gives researchers the opportunity to take a sabbatical of six months to two years for research abroad. The research can be within the researcher’s current field, or within another discipline or sector, but only within SSF’s prioritized areas of natural sciences, technology or medicine.

The applicant must have a full-time position (at least 80 percent) with permanent employment at a Swedish university or college as a lecturer (not assistant senior lecturer) or professor (including assistant professor, but excluding emeritus). The research must be carried out at a university, industry, hospital clinic, major research infrastructure or research institute.

The purpose of the call is to give the researchers the opportunity to broaden their horizons in science and/or the utilization of research.

The application must be in English and sent no later than March 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

The project must start between July 1 and December 31, 2026.
