Summary
The programme National Network and Graduate School for Cardiovascular Research (NNCR) has been focused on metabolic aspects of cardiovascular disease, the main cause of death in Western countries. Working together in a network, the research groups selected covered various highly relevant sections of this particular field. The groups built bridges between basic and patient-oriented science and between clinical science and industry with focus on better understanding of disease mechanisms, thereby supporting development of means for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The programme consisted of four parts: 1) a 3-year gradutate school; 2) a 2-year postdoctoral programme; 3)a network supporting activities and 4) activities to support contact with industry. In 2004 SSF has awarded a two year grant of SEK 0,5 M for national network activities (A3 97:24b).
