Summary
UTSIKT is a series of conferences arranged by the Swedish Institute of Computer Science, SICS. The last couple of years, the conferences have been organised in collaboration with the The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, The KK-foundation and VINNOVA. The purpose of the UTSIKT conferences is to highligt an important area in research (in particular, research in Information and Communication Technology, ICT), and/or how this research affects society and business. As an example, the 2008 conference focused on Disruptive Technologies. The 2009 UTSIKT conference will have as its theme "Science and Fiction", and will discuss how research is affected by fiction writing (and other forms of fiction, e.g. film), and also how science affects fiction (both science fiction and more general fiction). Examples will be given from current ICT research, both national and international. The speakers will be both leading Swedish researchers and fiction writers, as well as one or two internationally leading researchers and/or writers. The UTSIKT conferences typically attract about 400 attendees, coming from the research community, industry, research funding agencies, and media. The conferences have a track record of generating very good media coverage, and thus help to spread both new research results and related ideas to a larger audience.
