Summary
The ETAPP project aims at improved industrial efficiency and academic reserach on product line softwaer testing. The main objectives of this strategic mobility project is to 1) boost the effects of the new industrial excellence center by widening the industry-academia contact network for the center director, 2) establish a "bridgehead" within the Sony Ericsson organization for empirical research on software testing, and 3) support transfer of knowledge between two of the company's development sites. The work plan has three phases: 1) work in industry (30%) during 18 months with focus on network establishment, support to strategic decisions in the company based on research competencies, and opening up for PhD students in the company; 2) work similarly in another site of the company (60%) during 6 months to support transfer of knowledge and experience; 3) evaluation and decisions for future cooperation. Based on experiences from another exchange program with another department of the same company, we expect the mobility lead to improved industry deveopment practices through enhanced contact networks and mutual understanding between industry and academia, which may be utilized in the long-term cooperation between the parties.

Sony Ericssons mobiltelefoner utvecklas enligt ett s.k. produktlinjekoncept. Detta betyder att flera produkter utvecklas på samma bas eller plattform av programvara. Konceptet har lett till en fantastisk effektivitetsökning när det gäller antal nya produkter per arbetstimme. När det gäller testning av nya produkter finns dock en stor potential att förbättra effektiviteten. Bland annat denna fråga beforskas inom ramen för ett industriellt forskningscentrum i samverkan mellan Sony Ericsson, LTH och BTH. För att genomföra denna forskning på ett bra sätt krävs täta kontakter och nära samverkan mellan akademi och industri. Detta projekt syftar till att skapa bättre förutsättningar för denna samverkan. Konkret innebär det att forskningsledaren får en arbetsplats på företaget och deltar i strategiska diskussioner och beslut. Projektet innehåller också en periods vistelse på ett annat av Sony Ericsson kontor ute i världen.
