Summary
The project shall lead to the creation of multi physical contact models of a coated electrical contact subjected to relevant loads during operation. Effects that will be studied are loads such as mechanical, thermal and electrical as well as the geometrical design of the contact. An important part of the work will be to build a model in a general finite element program of typical contact geometry. Investigate the influence of different parameters such as substrate and coating material properties, contact geometry, mechanical normal and tangential loads, temperature and current flow. The results will give a better understanding of the importance of the different parameters for the strength and function of the contact.
Popular science description
