Summary

The proposal includes programs for both research and competence development for improved availability, controllability, and flexibility for Swedish process industry. The research programme focuses on planning, optimization and control from strategic to operational levels concerned with both internal manufacturing and the supply chain, aiming at improving availability, controllability and flexibility through better integration between planning levels and a higher degree of optimality. This programme is a collaboration effort by researchers from automatic control, optimization, and production economics/operations management, with complementary perspectives and competencies on planning, optimization and control at different hierarchical levels. We are well equipped for a unique, broad and in-depth treatment of the total problem complex. The competence development programme will include all areas that SSF has identified as important. Linköping University has already good coverage in terms of both breadth and depth in the current course offering, but a modification to the process industry will be necessary. We will together with participating firms develop a programme that will fit the Swedish process industry. In addition to deploying new knowledge through the competence development programme and through participation at international conferences, we will arrange seminars at participating companies, to discuss problem areas and research results and visit other process industry firms.
