Summary
The overall goal of CEPROC is to establish, in cooperation with Swedish process industry, an internationally leading centre for research and professional training in process optimization and control. In the research program, methodology and tools for modelling, optimization, and control of industrial processes will be developed, in order to improve production systems with respect to flexibility, controllability, and availability. The methodology and the tools are developed from specific solutions to process control problems suggested by the industrial partners. A unifying theme is to use mathematical models for prediction, optimization, and feedback. Top-class process optimization and process control is the most important enabling technique and prerequisite for flexibility, controllability, and availability in all sectors of process industry. This is specially the case in Sweden where flexible customer-driven production dominates. Control and optimization-based approaches and solutions are often highly generic and, thus, applicable to a wide range of industrial branches. Therefore, the results from CEPROC will be industrially relevant, not only for the participating industries, but on a wide scale in process operation and automation. In the competence development program, the main goal is to increase the competence level of process optimization and control in industry as well as in academy. The goal will be reached in two ways; through an educational program at different levels for staff in process industry, and by directed efforts in MSc and PhD programs at the university.
