Summary
The aim of the project is to develop methods and tools for analyzing visual information at the cognitive level, with applications to IT-systems, internet and embedded systems. These applications include search in video streams and image databases, visually guided service robots and home appliances, and systems for human-machine interaction. One example concerns information and guidance services using mobile phones. The goal is to develop enabling techniques for cognitive vision that can be applied in various IT-systems, and to demonstrate these in prototypes and implementations. The project, which started in 2003, involves computer vision groups from KTH, Link¨oping University and Lund University. As the programme nears its completion, 45 peer-reviewed publications have been generated. 2 PhD degrees and 3 licentiate degree have to date been awarded with partial support from the program. The consortium has had an extensive international collaboration, especially through on-going and future Euprojects and the EC Vision Network on cognitive vision networks. There have also been industrial collaborations for applications in handheld camera systems, and in sports analysis and visualisation and the project has contributed to the start up of commercial companies by the participants.
