Summary
Industrial and wood-based construction has been highlighted as a potential for increased efficiency in the construction industry. Research in industrial construction is largely based on learning from the lean concept and traditional manufacturing. Common for industrial construction is that the degree of efficiency and value creation in domestic production in many cases coincides with a growing volume of similar products. This leads to a contradiction to the culture and context of the unique project as the norm, which is the basis for the customer, ie construction industry, requirements. The aim of the research project is thus to develop methods and tools for the manufacturing industry within the construction industry, based on the principles of lean production and that works well in the construciton context for achieving greater efficiency and value creation in the construction value chain. In order to achieve understanding and knowledge of methods and tools for the manufacturing industry, which seems to work in synergy with the construction industry's requirements, benchmarking studies are to be performed. Development and evaluation of developed methods and tools will be achieved through action research on a component manufacturing industry where the introduction of lean will be done in parallel with the research project. The research project is expected to come up with results that are of value to both academia and industry.

Inom den svenska byggindustrin har ökad effektivitet och kvalitet, samt sänkta kostnader länge efterfrågats. Initiativ i form av industriellt byggande, där en byggnad produceras industriellt i en fabrik har under de senaste åren ökat, då många ser potentialen i att hus, likväl som bilar, produceras i en fabrik. Utveckling inom industriellt byggande är till stora delar baserat på lärande från det japanska lean-konceptet som i grunden kommer från Toyotas produktionssystem, Toyota Production System (TPS) och traditionell tillverkningsindustri. Vid införandet av Lean-konceptet är det däremot viktigt att ta hänsyn till den kontext och kultur som finns inom den industri där lean ska införas. När det gäller industriellt byggande innebär detta att principer och verktyg som appliceras från Lean-konceptet, måste anpassas till den kultur som finns inom byggindustrin, med unika projekt. Det finns nämligen ett motsatsförhållande mellan byggindustrins norm och kontext med det unika byggprojektet, medan en effektiv produktion för aktörer inom industriellt byggande i många fall sammanfaller med en ökande volym av liknande produkter. Forskningsprojektets syfte är därmed att utveckla metoder och verktyg, för tillverkande företag inom byggindustrin, som bygger på principerna i lean-konceptet och som samtidigt fungerar väl i byggandekontexten för att uppnå en ökad effektivitet och värdeskapande i byggandets hela process.
