Summary
The EuPa congress is run as an annual non profit scientific meeting to drive European excellence and development within the proteomics research area. In 2009 the 3rd EuPA congress will be organised in Stockholm, June 14-17. The congress is organised via the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences does not provide any funds for the organisation of EuPA 2009 but has agreed to guarantee the financial risk. The Swedish Proteomic Society (a national focus group of the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences; www.swepharm.se) together with the corresponding proteomic societies of the Nordic countries (Finland, Norway and Denmark), was appointed to organise EuPA 2009 in Stockholm after a very strong competition between several other European countries. A major goal is to attract younger scientists why an extensive poster programme is offered and highly ranked abstracts from younger scientists are specially screened for and promoted by the scientific committee to be included in the oral programme. EuPA 2009 has a key focus on Clinical Proteomics, which well reflects the rapid progress of the proteomics field, developing from an emerging biotechnical platform based on mass spectrometry and bioinformatics as we entered the post genomic era in the early 2000s to now have matured to a level where quantitative aspects can be addressed and where proteomics now at an accelerated pace starts to integrate with clinical research.
