Summary
Dr Maria Åkerlind from the farm advisory company ‘Växa Sverige’ will participate in the ongoing research at the Departments of Animal Environment and Health and Animal Nutrition and Management at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The work will result in more rapid transfer of new advanced research findings for the benefit of dairy, beef and lamb production. Växa Sverige has a computer tool that optimizes rations for dairy cows and heifers economically. It is based on the new feed evaluation system NorFor and is already fully used in feed advisory in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. The focus will be on improvements in the animals' consumption capacity, nutrient and mineral requirement. Adjustments and adaptations of the NorFor system for cattle, cows and sheep will also be made in this project. SLU researchers will cooperate in the evaluation and further develop the NorFor system with their own experimental data. This is an opportunity to increase awareness of NorFor system and strengthen connections between researchers and farmers and advisors with milk and beef and lamb production as a specialty.

Ny avancerad forskning ska snabbare komma till nytta i svensk mjölk-, nötkötts- och lammproduktion. Foder och utfodring är den enskilt största kostnaden i svensk mjölk- och köttproduktion. För att nå ut på gårdsnivå har rådgivningsföretaget Växa Sverige ett dataverktyg som ekonomiskt optimerar foderstater till kor och ungdjur. Det baseras på det nya fodervärderingssystemet NorFor och används redan fullt ut i foderrådgivningen i Sverige, Norge, Danmark och Island. Dr Maria Åkerlind från Växa Sverige kommer att medverka i forskningen på SLU-institutionerna Husdjurens miljö och hälsa samt Husdjurens utfodring och vård. Fokus på forskningsutbytet kommer att ligga i förbättringar kring djurens konsumtionsförmåga, närings- och mineralbehov. Även anpassning av dataverktyget till köttdjur, dikor och får kommer att göras inom detta projekt. SLU-forskare kommer att samarbeta i utvärdering och vidareutveckling av NorFor-modellen med egna forskningsresultat. Detta är ett tillfälle att öka kunskapen om NorFor och stärka kontakter mellan forskare och rådgivare och även lantbrukare med mjölk- och köttproduktion som specialitet.
