Summary

Multicore computers are the main computing platform for the future, and computer system providers have switched to this new technology. In order to benefit form the performance potential of multicore systems, the software must be parallel and scalable. However, there exist many challenges and it is a research intensive area. The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry in Sweden to present and discuss the recent work in the area of multicore computing. The scope of the workshop is both hardware and software aspects of multicore computing. Examples of relevant topics are multicore architectures, parallel programming languages, compiler techniques, operating and run-time systems, correctness and performance issues, and tools and methods for multicore systems. In addition to the regular sessions we also plan a panel session on a subject that is of importance for the research and industry communities. The workshop is organized as an activity within the "Swedish Multicore Initiative" network, http://www.sics.se/multicore. The Swedish Multicore Initiative consists of participants from several major universities in Sweden, Swedsoft, and some major software companies in Sweden. In November 2008, the 1st Swedish Workshop on Multicore Computing is held in Ronneby, http://www.bth.se/mcc08. However, it should be noted that the workshop next year (2009) may be located at another university within the network.
