Summary

The objective of the proposed project is to develop a smart system platform consisting of an intra-body network of sensors and bio-electronic actuators, all connected by body-coupled communication (BCC). Together with big data analysis, a treatment regimen is derived that provide high-speed feedback between diagnosis and auto-regulated treatment, targeting to establish a radically novel health care system. The intra-body network will be supported by the ubiquitous mobile network and the resources of the “cloud”. The project has a system perspective where state-of-the-art disciplinal research and development of components, methodologies, data handling and smart systems converge and create strong novelty. We will use a system demonstrator targeting epilepsy to work as test bed that focus and guide the research activities and makes it possible to verify deliverables from the different WPs in the project. The plan is to have three different implementations of the demonstrator and to allow the system to organically increase in complexity from a virtual system to a full smart intra-body network. The expected result from the project is a novel smart system platform that can be further developed and applied to different diseases and disorders and will become a very powerful tool to improve life quality and promise for a significant reduction of health care costs.

Popular science description
