Summary

The motivation for this work is to seek methods in wireless communication that, improve performance, provide more cost-efftive solutions, and offer a resource and energy efficient system design. This is adressed by wireless cooperative methods that will include different network topologies, like relaying and multihopping etc., which are jointly designed with radio realistic and adapted Network coding (NC) and dirty paper coding (DPC) methods. Information theoretical tools are used and based on this novel and improved communication schemes are devised. My objective is to: • Study information theory and coding. - 1 month • Perform literature studies on Network coding and Dirty paper coding. - 1 month • Apply knowledge in the area of information theory, NC, DPC to, develop new schemes for, and analyze relaying, bi-directional relaying, Hybrid-ARQ, and multihop networks etc under realistic radio channel modeling. performance, cost, as well as resource and energy efficient system design are adressed. - 2 months • Work and write a set of papers jointly with other researchers. - 2 months Expected results are: • An improved understanding of NC (and DPC) in the context of wireless in general and in particular with information theoretical tools. • A set of joint papers written and submitted to relevant conferences. • Industry view and practical problems and ideas brought to the university. • State of the art ideas and knowledge in academia brought back to home org.

If so, with roughly 55000 US$ needed after tax, approximately 10000 US$ extra is needed to cover the tax cost, i.e. 65000 US$ = 448 kSEK With the Marcus Wallenberg Grant of 145 kSEK, of order 300 kSEK remains. N.B. In the application for the MW Grant I applied for a 9 months stay, the assumption of resonable income reduction, and a joining spouse. Due to the actual grant sum the time limit is now 6 months and no spouse is joining. Source data for cost estimates from http://web.mit.edu/scholars/intlscholars/preparation/col.html The living costs in the Cambridge/Boston area are among the highest in the United States, Meals: $20 - $50 / day for meals at moderately priced restaurants $100 - $300 / night for hotel, motel, or guest house accommodations. The cost of a two-bedroom apartment $1,300 - $2,500 /m or more. Single family homes $2,000 - $4,000 /m or more Utilities, such as heat, hot water, gas, and electricity, $120-$450/m Household Items may be required (Furnitures ?) You should be aware that taxes may be deducted from salaries, stipends, and fellowships. Your available income after taxes may be lower than anticipated.
