Summary
The general focus of the Centre is Communications in information technology with emphasis on long-term research but also adapted to existing research backgrounds and Swedish industrial conditions. Three main areas are targeted: Photonic communications, Integration and photonic circuits and Ultrafast phenomena and technology. A project area of Exploratory Technology is added. A leading theme is the insight that the partly interrelated issues of lower cost, higher performance and increased integration levels are essential features for future photonics industrial progress, and that only quantum leaps, based on basic research, can bring forth such developements
